One of the things we love most about our hobbies is bringing it into our every day lives (in this case, making an every day belt out of a bicycle tire). I have mentioned in some of our previous posts that cycling is a huge passion for me and a great form of exercise. And we do believe that bringing passions like this into your every day attire and other parts of your life, will really help your unique style to shine through. If any of you are questioning what your style is when it comes to fashion, consider some of your hobbies. And let the naturalness of it take it's course in your wardrobe!
Step 1: Gather Supplies - Bicycle tire, Grandpa's Leather hole punch, Flat-head Screwdriver, Exacto knife, Sharpie, Belt buckle, 2 Screws and Posts
Step 2: Cut off the side walls of the tire...this allows the tire to fold and bend like a belt.
Step 3: Round off one side of the belt.
Step 4: Mark a dot with the sharpie in the center of the tire 8 inches from the opposite end you just rounded.
Step 5-6: Fit belt buckle into the hole.
Step 7: With belt buckle set in the hole, fold the tire and mark in the center of the tire one inch from the fold.
Step 8: Punch a hole through both sides where you marked the tire.
Step 9: Measure 1 inch from the first hole you punched and punch a second in the middle of the tire.
Step 10-11: Set a post and screw into the first hole you punched, and slide belt loop onto the tire.
Step 12: Set the other post and screw into the second hole, to secure the belt loop in place.
Step 13-14: Cut the excess tire off about 1/2 inch from the second post and screw.
Step 15: On the end of the tire that was rounded, measure 3-4 inches in and mark a dot in the center of the tire and punch a hole. From that dot measure one inch and punch another hole. Repeat this 5-6 times or until you have the desired number of holes.
Step 16: Enjoy your new cycling belt! This makes a great way to recycle and reuse old items and also sport your hobbies through your attire.
It's a great idea!!

DeleteWow, so creative!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I really wanted to get into biking. He got an awesome bike and I found a vintage one I was planning to restore. But when his bike was stolen (and we can't afford a replacement) the inspiration kind of left me.
Point is, I have some brand new bike tires that would be awesome to try this craft on! Thanks for the awesome idea.
Wow. That is quite unfortunate that your husband's bike was stolen. We have had this happen to a few of our friends and it is definitely not fair. Maybe with your new bike tires, this would be a great thing to try and to get that motivation you need to be excited about bike riding again! Thanks for sharing. You both are in our thoughts.
DeleteThis is so cool!!!! I'm going to have to try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Let us know if you decide to try it and how it goes!
DeleteThis is quite clever. My fiance loves mountain biking and I think he would love this project, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sammie. We both enjoy some mountain biking as well and we agree that incorporating bikes into your life anywhere is a great idea! We may be a little biased. ;)

This is so creative, I love it! I'm tucking this DIY away for the next time I need a thoughtful gift...or when I change my tires. I'm in the process of designing a tote to fit onto my bike. Wonder if I can make the handle like this?
