Brewed Blue by Marilyn

Like some of you out there, I currently work a desk job during the day which requires business casual attire. A part of me LOVES dressing up for work. I love having to wear cute heels and pencil skirts a few days out of the week. I also love being able to get creative with how many complimentary colors I can put into one outfit since it has to fit a pretty conservative style for our dress code.
For this outfit, I chose blue and gray with a hint of orange. Orange is probably my favorite color. It was one of our wedding colors. So any time I find an orange accessory or clothing item, I try to make it work for my body. I also have this love for blue (I'm a little biased since we have the Thunder in OKC and who doesn't just love a little K.D.?!).

Since I love throwing color into my wardrobe, I try to think about what colors I am missing in my closet. When it comes down to choosing between a blue shirt or purple shirt, I might choose the blue shirt since I already own a few purple shirts. Also I didn't have any shirts in this shade of blue.  Adding a new color to your wardrobe is a great way to freshen up your look and to get noticed [for looking good of course].

As you may know, blue and orange are complimentary colors on the color wheel. This means that they work well to set each other off when worn the right way. If you are unsure of how to put colors together, print one of these out and match the colors on your clothing to the colors on the wheel. They don't always have to be right across from each other, but this is a good place to start.

For this outfit, I am wearing a button-up from Old Navy, V-neck from Forever21, Skirt, tights and necklace from Target, and the shoes are Jessica Simpson which I actually found at a thrift store!

  1. Oh my gosh you are so cute. I love the button up shirt under the v-neck sweater, and chunky necklace... And I just want to say that I love how practical your outfits are! It's so hard for me to get inspired by magazines and fancy fashion blogs because I am such a simple person when it comes to how I dress, but I'm always looking for more ways to be a little girly without it being difficult. Thank you for doing these posts, I love them! :)

    1. Thank you! You are so sweet. I'm really glad we can help inspire you. I agree that it is hard to be inspired by magazines sometimes because they are not always realistic. I hope that you will be able to take this and use it for your own outfits. Sometimes I think it's about taking things you have and learning how to put them together. :)

  4. I think I would love dressing up for an office job. I love blouses, blazers and cute pencil skirts. I love the combination of blue and grey together, especially that rich shade of blue.

    1. Thanks Monica. Most days I love dressing up, but there are definitely days that I wish I could have a little more creative freedom at work. I guess that's part of why we are blogging. :)
