DIY: Cone Wall Flower by Marilyn

I am always looking for new Do-It-Yourself projects to use to create decor for our next party. I had been brainstorming ideas for a holiday party and have always loved the idea of incorporating flowers (no matter what season it is). I finally settled on the idea of creating a flower out of little cones. I love this idea because it is pretty simple, fills the walls nicely, and is very affordable. I have even romanticized the idea of using one as a wreath for our front door. These poinsettia-like wall flowers will are sure to bring holiday cheer to your next December event!

Step 1: Gather your materials. You will need some festive colored poster board, tape, scissors, and a hot glue gun.

Steps 2-3: Cut your poster board in half. Cut each half in half again and again until you have at least 6 large rectangles, 11 medium, 12 small, and 4-6 minis. If you need extra minis, you can use some of your leftover poster board for this. Roll all your rectangles into cones and tape into place at the base of the cone.

Steps 4-5: Cut the tips of the cone bases off on the largest cones until they all look the same. Grab your hot glue and glue the cones together on the sides until it forms a circle. (These trimmings can be used to create mini cones if you need them later to fill the flower in). Glue your medium cones together in a circle as well, and place this on top of your layer of 6 large cones. Glue into place. Repeat with the last two smaller rows of cones. Secure some hemp rope in place on the back side of your Wall Flower in a loop so that it can be hung.

Step 6: Hang on a door or wall and enjoy!

  1. It's cute, but I think I would do it with different colors or grades of colors, to add some dimension. Or maybe paint the tips gold, that would be festive, too!
