DIY: Earring Organizer Frame by Marilyn

I once made this earring organizer out of an old vintage frame someone gave me. I always loved this idea and have always thought it was a great way to display fun jewelry and organize it rather than leave it messy (which is easy to do of course). But why not turn it into something lovely that can be framed like a picture? It's a great and unique way to add some decor to your room or closet. It's also a great motivator to keep things around the house looking presentable! Here are the steps I used to create mine and would love to hear from you on any tips and tricks you might have as well! (Photos read from left to right, then top to bottom).

Step 1: Buy a bunch of vintage frames from thrift store. I spent $9 and got about 5 frames. The more ornate and decorative the edges are, the better! Remove original photos, paintings, etc. from the frame and put aside. You can recycle these if you find use for them later.

Step 2: You will need your vintage frames, porch screen material, scissors, wood glue, sand paper, 1 sheet of felt, wood glue, acrylic paint [for the frame], (and optional staple gun).

Step 3: Use your sand paper to sand down your frame and get off all of the exterior protective coating from the frame. This will allow your paint to adhere to your frame properly. Once this is complete, wipe down your frame with a wet cloth and paint the frame your desired color.

Step 4: Allow your first coat to dry completely and add a second coat of paint. Allow this to dry completely. If desired, you can sand off some of the paint around the edges to give a more rustic look to your frame.

Steps 5-6: Flip your frame over and cut your screen to fit in the the inside of the frame so that it will reach across the full frame. Dab your wood glue around the edges of the inner frame and lay the screen edges on top across the inner frame.

Steps 7-8: Cut 4 thin strips from the edges of your felt sheet and place along the edges of your inner frame. This should lay directly on top of the wood glue that should be seeping through your porch screen material. Allow this to dry completely and if you would like to add extra security, you can use your staple gun to secure the screen material into your inner frame.

**Also optional, you can add reinforcements to the frame to allow it to stand on its own. Or your frame may already have wires or something to hang it from so that you can hang it on your wall.
