I found this skirt a while back at a thrift store and thought to myself of what a great find this was. And with a little love and fixing up, this skirt would make a perfect office skirt. The problem I tend to run into with clothing in general is that I am very petite (aka short). Most pants and some skirts tend to be too long for me and I find that they even make me look shorter somehow (see above left photo for example). Thanks to my sewing machine, I have found a way to make most clothing work for my body. And I'm hoping I can share some of this goodness with you all out there so that you can also make the most of what's out there or what you might already have in your closet.
This tutorial is even simpler than most hem jobs because you don't even need a sewing machine! All you need is a long skirt, needle and thread, fabric scissors, and 20 minutes.
Materials needed: Listed above.
First try on your skirt in front of a mirror and figure out how short you would like it to be. Fold across this line and pin into place on one side. Take off the skirt and make sure your fold is straight across and even spacing from the top to bottom of the skirt.

Pin into place around the whole skirt about every couple of inches. Use your needle and thread to make the tiniest stitch in the world every inch across the whole bottom of the skirt (from the inside out). Once you have made it across the whole skirt, triple knot on the inside. Try on to make sure everything about the skirt is where you'd like it. Iron in place and trim off excess inside fabric. Now you are ready to sport your new and improved skirt!
