Growing up visiting my grandparents house over the years, we would always migrate to their backyard/patio to hang out as a family. Over the years I have never really paid much attention to their backyard, but this last visit I realized why I love my grandparent's backyard so much. All of the little handmade accents that my grandpa has painted or constructed for holiday decorations make it what it is. My grandpa is very handy and resourceful, most of the items are reclaimed or reused is some way. For example you may have seen with his handy work in our Garden in a Box post. This garden box was made from his old fence. I think this is where I get a lot of my creativity and resourcefulness from...and my humor. :) Here are a few photos of my favorite pieces in their backyard. Enjoy!
Grandpa Charlie and Grandma June in there backyard with a sign my grandpa made.
Photo of the front of their house and a detail shot of the Nimz Corner stone that we gave them for their 50th Wedding Anniversary...Rock Chalk Jayhalk!
Porch shot. I have so many memories of my grandparents standing here and waving as we drive off to head back home after a visit.
A sign my grandpa stenciled and constructed for Autumn, he has a different one for each season and for a few holidays as well.
My grandpa has a great sense of humor and loves playing jokes on people. Not pictured is a scary life-sized dummy named, "Charles," (his alter ego) that sits in one of the chairs on his front porch during the Halloween season. Every now and then he will dress up like the dummy and startle trick-or-treaters when they come to the door.
Another hand-painted sign by my grandpa and on the right is a path that he installed from the backdoor to garage over 30 years ago.
This is a photo of my grandma's gardening work bench...she loves plants and flowers! When she is not making sure everyone is well fed and enjoying themselves you can find her here re-potting plants and getting them ready to be put into the ground.
Above is a bird house my grandpa made for halloween. In their backyard they over 10 bird-feeders and a couple squirrel feeders, and on occasion little rabbits and other animals come out to eat.
