This weeks smoothie has a Green Twist. Don't be afraid of the color. It is sweet and refreshing and so good for you! We have been making variations of this smoothie for the past three years, but the original recipe for this smoothie came from Marilyn's mother (whom has been juicing for about 15 years).

What you'll need
2 c. Spinach (or another green)
2 c. Pineapple
2 c. Pineapple
1 c. Strawberries
2 Oranges
1 Banana
2 Tbsp. Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp. Spirulina
Coconut Water (as needed)
Coconut Water (as needed)
Directions
First place the spinach in the VitaMix. I have found that if I put the green leafy's (or Spinach in this case) on the bottom, the VitaMix will blend it up better, and the weight of the other ingredients pushes the leaves into the blades. Then I add the rest of the fruit in layers, placing the Spirulina and Coconut Oil in between layers of fruit. Previously I was adding them on top, but I quickly realized that the ingredients didn't mix well and the Coconut Oil would have a tendency to stick to the side of the VitaMix. By putting them in between the fruit it helps prevent this from happening. If the smoothie is too thick for your liking you can add a little coconut water to smooth it out. Don't forget to add a slice of an orange to top it all off with a bit of color. Enjoy!
I would love to hear your feedback if you try this recipe. Below is a photo of what the ingredients will look like before blended.

Coconut oil is a magical thing. I've just started to get into it and I love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to make me some of these smoothies once I get my hands on a full-sized-not-dorm fridge and a blender.

We totally agree. It adds a little tropical flavor, but also helps your immune system and provides your body with what it's craving. Even a little blender would be something you could start off with. Good luck and thanks for the feedback!
DeleteThis is my kind of smoothie! Love green drinks and smoothies and this one sounds delicious. I will have to try it soon.

DeleteThis looks delish. Like a tropical fiesta! I have major vitamix envy...I need to start saving my pennies.
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura! Yes Vitamixes are quite costly, but they last you a lifetime! Totally worth the buy and the health benefits you can receive will probably save you money in the long run on doctor bills.
DeleteMmmm! :) I looove putting spinach in my smoothies, its so healthy but I literally can never taste it! Plus, it makes the prettiest color! Thanks for sharing, this looks fantastic!

Thank you! That is exactly why we love the spinach too. Added nutrition, but still has a sweet taste. :)
