Recently I moved offices at my day job to a window office. I decided at that point, it was time to take initiative and actually decorate with items other than my old college decor. When I first began working my current job, I realized I had this huge white office. And it was like a blank canvas for me to work with and make my own (especially since I would be spending most of my daylight hours there).
I took this opportunity to make my space my 'home away from home.' However part of the joy of being on a budget is getting creative with what you already have. Or thrifting it up and fixing it up. I purchased a few key pieces and centered the rest of my decor around these.
I took many items from my old office and painted them or fixed them up. Also we had several picture frames that were given to us as gifts. Instead of going out and buying new frames, I was able to use some of these old ones and paint them to match my theme colors: Yellows, Whites, Grays, and Browns.
For these bottles I simply filled them with navy beans and put some berry twigs in one of the bottles. In the other bottle, I created some simple paper flowers to fill the bottle temporarily.
For the frames on the wall, a few of them were from college or given to us as wedding gifts. The other ones were frames I purchased from a thrift store. I wrapped the inner frames with fabric and created these fun felt flowers to fill them. I painted the outer frames to match. See how I fixed up the frame on the left here.
I found this little iron bike and filled it with yarn covered foam cylinders.
Kaleb found this letter "M" for me at Urban Outfitters. I wrapped it with berries that I painted to match the yellow around my office.
Here is one of those frames that was given to us as a gift which I decided to paint yellow and sand down to give a rustic look.
These are the pieces I centered my office around. I love yellow and I have recently have found a love for white. I loved this owl and the classic feel to it. It reminded me of one of my grandmother's cookie jars.
If you have an office space you can decorate, go for it. Even if you have a desk, small space, or work from home, I really feel that having a space you feel comfortable in is great for staying productive.
