Earlier this week we had a really windy day that blew some dead branches down and out of the walnut tree in out front yard. As I was cleaning up the stray branches, I thought it would be fun and festive to use them for a DIY project or decorations. So I piled them up on the back porch and there they sat for few days. This happens often. :) A few nights later, I was sketching and realized I bought this really bright, girly pencil organizer at Target (in the dollar section) that I planned on recovering...and thats when it hit me. I would convert the girly pencil organizer into a manly twig cup 'organizer.' (Add a few grunts and you get the picture). If you want to make your own 'Manly' Twig organizer below is a step by step on how I did it. Have fun and grunt a few times while you are constructing it.

What You'll Need:
Twigs (all similar in size to each other)
Hot glue gun
Gardening shears
Pencil organizer
Paint (we used white)
Step 1: Cut branches into semi even lengths a little bit longer than the height of the cup. A little variation is okay, it adds to the charm.

Step 2: Paint pencil organizer a solid color, and gather supplies (cut twigs, hot glue gun, and pencil organizer).

Step 3: Line up branches and start gluing them in place. Fill in all the gaps with the smaller twigs. Work your way across one side and start on the next until all sides are covered. The hot glue dries fast so be ready.
Step 4: Once you are finished, fill with all your loose pens, pencils, and anything else laying around that will fit in the organizer. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI love your commentary. Glad you were able to put those twigs to use!
ReplyDeleteOOohhh this would be great as a candle holder. --as long as you keep the flames from the twigs, ya know.
